Project Description

S's work will collaboratively expand on previous media work centering the narratives of formerly incarcerated people, to bring forth critical issues in the American criminal legal system.

Artist Bio

S (she/her) is a student of abolition, passionate about dismantling the prison industrial complex in the United States and internationally. S arrived at abolitionist politics during her time as a writer at her college newspaper, where she reported on criminal justice reform legislation that passed in Massachusetts. While there, S recognized the ways in which reformist reforms deepen criminalization and expand the prison industrial complex. Beyond her work as a storyteller, S is a researcher of carceral technologies and restorative justice. She is grateful to RIRJ for the opportunity to be in community with artists and organizers who are working to realize a radical vision for racial justice in Boston.
