Project Description

Mila Fields-Zayas will create a mural based on responses she receives from questions asked of BIPOC women around communities where we are taught that we are less than. This will include Mila filming the process and creating a documentary of the work as she creates the art and includes clips from community members themselves.

Artist Bio

Mila Fields-Zayas (she/they) has always had a passion for art and social justice. She was born and raised in New York, moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, and then to Boston where she began her journey at predominatly white schools. She has struggled to have a voice in these white spaces and has since been searching for a community while finding ways to stay involved in social change and organizing. Her goals are to support BIPOC to find voices within themeselves, and to not need to rely on whiteness for success. She is the founder and leader of her predominantly white institution's (PWI) Black Student Union, and works to make sure that Black students in these white spaces can have outlets of freedom.
