Project Description
Aggrey Twinomugisha's project "Just Beyond Your Self" made and distributed free re-useable face masks/covers to the homeless community of Boston through ground street outreach.
The outreach experience showed me that there were 2 pandemics going on at the same time.
One memorable moment that stood out for me was when one of the homeless folks (Tommy) thanked me for giving him a free mask and stated that it was extremely hard for them to survive on the streets as they had nowhere to shelter. they were not allowed to use public toilets, those who were not in the shelters before the pandemic hit were not allowed to go in the shelters in and out as they would normally do.
Obviously now things are almost back to normal but in moments of desperation and looking for answers, no one had quick solutions and the only reliable solution and source of hope was securing a face cover to protect yourself and your neighbor.
Artist Bio
I am an immigrant who was born and raised in Uganda, East Africa. I am the creative director and designer at Shuuba_designz although I am still furthering my studies.
I am constantly engaged in challenging myself, and participating in empowering communities by using my skill sets to nature possibilities.
I founded Dress Of Hope, a platform for self expression through the Art of sewing and craftsmanship whose vision is a society of empowered people who are economically independent and actively participating in growing their communities.
